How to Simplify Mixed Fractions
A mixed number is a fraction that has both integers and fractions. The example is

1 | |
2 |
To perform arithmetic operations on mixed numbers such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, it will be easier if the mixed number is first simplified to a regular fraction. The way to simplify a mixed number is to multiply the denominator by the whole number in a mixed number, then add the numerator to the result. The result of this calculation is the numerator of the ordinary fraction you are looking for, while the denominator of the ordinary fraction you are looking for is the same as the mixed number. Examples are as follows:
+ ⮣ | 1 | 3 | |
1 | = | ||
x ⮤ | 2 | 2 |
