What is Greatest Common Factor?
In order to know what the Largest Common Factor is, we need to know what a factor is. Factors are numbers that can divide a number without remainder. For example, the factors of the number 6 are 1, 2, 3, and 6 because they can divide by 6 without remainder.
Then what is the Biggest Faction Factor or FPB? Common Factors are factors of two or more numbers that can divide by two or more numbers without remainder. For example the factors of the number 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12. We already know that the factors of the number 6 are 1, 2, 3, and 6. Then the Common Factor of 6 and 12 is 1, 2, 3, and 6 because these factors divide 6 and 12 without remainder.
The greatest common factor is the greatest common factor. Therefore, it is known that the GCF of 6 and 12 is 6 because 6 is the largest number that divides 6 and 12 without remainder.
How to Find It?
The easiest way to find FPB is:
- Factor the figures for which the FPB will be sought. How to do the factorization is described in this post.
- Find the common factor based on the result of the factorization.
- Find the greatest factor of the common factors found.
